The Iraqi industrial landscape is currently characterized by a rapid transition towards diversifying its non-metallic mineral sector. Given the region's arid climate and specific soil compositions, the demand for high-quality bentonite powder has surged, particularly for use in drilling fluids and environmental remediation projects across the Mesopotamian plains.
However, the industry faces challenges related to extreme temperature fluctuations and salinity. The integration of activated carbon is becoming critical for water purification and oil-field waste treatment, addressing the urgent need for sustainable industrial cleanup in the southern governorates.
Despite these challenges, Iraq is seeing an increase in the adoption of specialized additives. The utilization of clay bentonite in construction and metallurgy is evolving as the country rebuilds its infrastructure, moving from raw material export to value-added processing.
